Environment

Progress on the environment:

  • Started construction on zero-emission Light Rail Transit, with a solid plan to expand the system farther east, west and south

  • Championed the Ottawa River Action Plan and is committed to finishing cleanup in his second term

  • Created stand-alone Environment Committee D City hosted its first-ever Water Summit and Greenhouse Gas Roundtable

  • Invested more in cycling than any Mayor in Ottawa’s history

  • Started construction on pedestrian and cycling bridges over the Rideau River (Somerset-Donald) and the 417 (Coventry Road)

  • Started and made permanent the Laurier Bike Lanes

  • Began weekly green bin pick-up

  • Added solar panels to City facilities – with more on the way

  • Supported the creation of the Ottawa Centre Eco District

  • Increased recycling options on downtown streets

  • Created the environmentally-sensitive land acquisition fund

  • Stopped the expansion of the urban boundary in Ottawa’s Official Plan 

 

On October 27, vote to give Jim a strong mandate to continue the progress we’re making on the environment.
