OTTAWA – Jim Watson today announced that 500 new volunteers have registered to support his re-election campaign in the first week alone. He also announced that he will hold a campaign kick-off rally on Sunday, April 27.
“In 2010, it took six months for 500 volunteers to sign up; this time, it took only one week. I’m humbled by this strong show of support from residents,” said Watson. “I’m grateful that so many people have agreed to lend their time and talent to help move our city forward, and look forward to recruiting hundreds more in the months ahead.”
Residents have signed up to volunteer in roles that include door knocking, phone canvassing, event coordination, graphic and web design, and other outreach and communication duties.
Watson will hold his first campaign rally on Sunday, April 27 at 2 p.m. at the RA Centre. Residents of all ages are invited to hear Watson speak, learn about volunteer opportunities and meet other supporters.
“This campaign is focused on the progress that the city has made over the last four years,” said Watson. “This quick, positive response from residents is a sign that Ottawa is on the right path.”
The municipal election will be held on October 27, 2014.
